[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] Na Kyung-won, former Future United Party (now People Power Party) lawmaker who declared her candidacy for the Seoul mayoral by-election, expressed confidence on the 21st, saying, "No matter how the unification rules are set, I think I will win."

Na, at a lecture held by the People Power Party's current and former lawmakers' group 'Towards a Better World (Mapo Forum)' in Mapo-gu, Seoul, in the afternoon, said, "'Na' Kyung-won is the 'one top' in the 'primary'."

She also showed confidence in the main election, saying, "'Na' Kyung-won competes to create the Seoul city that people 'want'."

She continued, "The recent polls were conducted at the end of December last year and announced earlier this month, showing a close race within the margin of error against former Minister of SMEs and Startups Park Young-sun," adding, "There is still a lot of time left before the election, so I think I can definitely win, so there is no need to worry."

Regarding her strengths and weaknesses, Na cited both as 'frames.' She said, "While serving as floor leader, I was always confined to news screens communicating, so the ruling party continuously imposed a negative image on me, which I think is my weakness," adding, "However, I am not a bad person at communication, and I will actively reveal my potential strengths of communication and empathy going forward."

She further stated, "This election started with the sexual harassment case of former Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon, so nominating a female mayor and female candidate symbolically shows the party's will to resolve women's issues," and added, "In that sense, I thought it is the right time for a female mayor."

As for her pledges, Na said, "The most urgent issues are real estate and COVID-19," and argued, "Real estate policy needs deregulation. Redevelopment and reconstruction should be revitalized."

She continued, "I looked at candidate Ahn Cheol-soo's pledges and candidate Woo Sang-ho's pledges, but there are many blind spots," and pointed out, "We need to talk about more realistic pledges and also discuss future visions."
