SK Telecom announced on the 22nd that it held Korea's first unmanned activation event for the Galaxy S21 at the Hongdae ICT Multiplex T Factory. Considering the COVID-19 prevention guidelines, this was the first time an unmanned activation system was applied to a new device activation event.
Among the Galaxy S21 pre-order customers, those selected through prior application visited the unmanned purchase space 'T Factory24' within T Factory at intervals starting from 9 a.m. that day, and activated their pre-ordered devices using SK Telecom's unmanned activation system. SK Telecom stated, "Customers who participated in the event became the first protagonists of Korea's Galaxy S21 contactless activation."
In line with this launch, SK Telecom also installed the Galaxy S21 experience zone ‘Galaxy Studio’ within T Factory for the first time in Korea. Additionally, the ‘Media Library,’ where customers can experience services such as V Coloring, Wave, FLO, and One Store Books, was enhanced so that customers can enjoy various SK Telecom subscription services in one place.
As a result of the Galaxy S21 pre-orders conducted until the previous day, half of all pre-order subscribers were customers in their 20s and 30s. Among the Galaxy S21 models, the Ultra accounted for about 50%. Three out of ten customers chose the same-day delivery service, which allows them to receive the product immediately on the activation day, the 22nd.
On this day, SK Telecom finalized the official subsidies for the Galaxy S21 series by plan at 225,000 to 500,000 KRW. According to the plan, the amounts are 225,000 KRW for 0Teen, 270,000 KRW for Slim, 356,000 KRW for Standard, 450,000 KRW for Prime, and 500,000 KRW for Platinum. This is the same amount that was raised during the pre-order period from the initially announced 87,000 to 170,000 KRW on the first day of pre-orders.
SK Telecom prepared purchase benefits for Galaxy S21 activation customers, including ▲various subscription-linked services such as ‘Genesis Spectrum’ where customers can experience Genesis ▲a T Direct Shop customer lottery event offering Xbox and PS5 ▲‘New Subscription Service Preview’ with discounts on popular SK Magic home appliances ▲and ‘5GX Perfect Club Galaxy S21,’ a combined product of device change programs and insurance.
Han Myung-jin, head of SK Telecom’s Marketing Group, said, “We planned the Galaxy S21 activation event at the complex cultural space T Factory so that Galaxy S21 pre-order customers can safely activate their devices in the untact era and enjoy various SK Telecom subscription services,” adding, “We will continue to strive to ensure customers can safely enjoy SKT’s benefits in the future.”
