Launch of the Gwangjin-gu Council Member Research Group 'Urban Regeneration Research Society'

Leading the Paradigm Shift of Cities in the Post-Corona Era

Launch of the Gwangjin-gu Council Member Research Group 'Urban Regeneration Research Society'

[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] The ‘Urban Regeneration Research Group,’ a council member research group of the Gwangjin District Council (Chairperson Park Sam-rye), held its inauguration ceremony in the council briefing room on the 21st and officially began its activities.

The ‘Gwangjin Urban Regeneration Research Group’ was formed to seek new development directions suited to the changing times and to derive urban environment improvement measures. It is led by Councilor Lee Kyung-ho, with Councilors Chu Yoon-gu, Go Yang-seok, Ahn Moon-hwan, Jeon Eun-hye, Moon Kyung-sook, and Lee Myung-ok participating.

At the inauguration ceremony, discussions were held on presenting a Gwangjin-type urban regeneration vision adapted to the changed environment and detailed research plans, along with in-depth discussions related to local issues.

The members focused on four areas?economy, leisure, safety/environment, and services?seeking improvement measures such as specialized commercial projects to revitalize the local economy stagnated by COVID-19, expansion of leisure activity services for new-generation families, creation of a safe and clean model city, and enhancement of quality of life through improved private consignment supply services. They also plan to continue research activities aimed at proposing more practical alternatives through benchmarking other regions, holding public hearings to gather opinions, and inviting expert lectures.

Representative Councilor Lee Kyung-ho stated, “I am saddened by the widespread issues brought by COVID-19, such as local economic stagnation, safety insensitivity, and lack of communication. We must pay attention to the urban environment changes that will occur in preparation for the post-COVID era.”

He added, “Pointing out the reality that Gwangjin-gu, which has optimal commercial conditions, lacks specialized companies, we will seek ways to foster specialized companies to enhance industrial competitiveness and revitalize surrounding commercial districts. We will also strive to improve services in anticipation of increased leisure activity demand after COVID-19 and improve private consignment administrative services closely related to residents’ lives, aiming to achieve urban development that residents can feel.”

During the subsequent meeting, a Q&A session on research topics followed.

Research member Moon Kyung-sook proposed measures to improve quality of life due to the increase in single-person households, and advisor Go Yang-seok suggested fair research service project execution methods.

Additionally, to facilitate smooth research activities of the Urban Regeneration Research Group, Moon Kyung-sook was elected as the secretary.
