[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Seocho-gu Council member An Jong-suk (The Democratic Party of Korea, Yangjae 1&2-dong, Naegok-dong) urged the executive branch to take an active stance to resolve complaints related to the installation of the Gwacheon sewage treatment plant during a 5-minute speech at the 1st plenary session of the 303rd extraordinary meeting held on the 15th.
In the first 5-minute free speech of the new year’s extraordinary meeting, Council member An Jong-suk stated, “Despite the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s supplementary instructions, the relocation of the Gwacheon sewage treatment plant, which is opposed by the executive branch, Seocho-gu Council, and local residents alike, is being pushed forward, causing residents’ anger to reach its peak. When the relocation of the sewage treatment plant becomes a reality, the pain and inconvenience caused will destroy the quality of life of Seocho-gu residents, even though the facility is completely unrelated to them, and the adverse effects will fall upon Seocho-gu residents.”
She further proposed that the executive branch conduct a study to analyze the impact on adjacent Seocho-gu residents and Usol Elementary School when the Gwacheon sewage treatment plant is relocated, by securing thorough and objective data to clearly convey Seocho-gu’s position to the relevant departments.
Meanwhile, at the 301st extraordinary meeting, Council member An Jong-suk, together with Council member Ko Gwang-min, jointly proposed a resolution urging the withdrawal of the Gwacheon sewage treatment plant relocation plan and strongly condemned the “Gwacheon Public Housing District Plan Approval Application,” which threatens the safety of Seocho-gu residents’ living environment.
