The Blue House stated that President Moon praised Minister Kang in this way during the National Security Council (NSC) plenary meeting held on the afternoon of the 21st.
President Moon said, "As our government's first female foreign minister and the longest-serving minister, she overcame the difficult situation on the Korean Peninsula in the early days of her tenure and played a dedicated and significant role in the progress of the Korean Peninsula peace process, including the North Korea-U.S. and inter-Korean summits." He added, "Especially since last year, she has made special contributions to cooperating with the international community and enhancing South Korea's standing amid the COVID-19 crisis."
Kim Tae-nyeon, the floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea who attended the NSC meeting that day, also added, "The party also thanks Minister Kang for her dedication to the nation."
