[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Son In-hye, head of nursing at Daedong Hospital (Hospital Director Park Kyung-hwan), received a commendation from the Minister of Health and Welfare in recognition of her efforts to improve the working environment for nursing staff.

The Ministry of Health and Welfare (Minister Kwon Deok-cheol) did not hold a separate awards ceremony due to COVID-19 and only delivered the commendation certificate. On the 20th, Park Kyung-hwan, director of Daedong Hospital, presented the certificate on behalf of the Minister of Health and Welfare.

Son In-hye introduced dedicated administrative personnel to the integrated nursing and caregiving service wards and developed work manuals by job and rank for nurses and head nurses, contributing to the improvement of nursing tasks.

To enhance the work capabilities of nursing staff, Son actively implemented a rotation system and maintained the highest nursing grade (Grade 1) to improve employee satisfaction, leading qualitative improvements in nursing services. Through continuous investment and effort, she has presented a model for exemplary nursing workforce management in the local community, receiving positive evaluations.

To establish integrated nursing and caregiving services as a universal nursing service, since March last year, dedicated administrative personnel have been introduced to support administrative, clerical, medical affairs, and guidance tasks outside of nursing duties. This has simplified the workload of essential nursing staff in ward operations and improved the quality of nursing.

In fact, a survey conducted on nurses working in eight integrated nursing and caregiving service wards showed that non-nursing workload decreased by 83% after the introduction of dedicated administrative personnel, and the average number of patient rounds increased from 1.5 to 3 times, improving nursing job satisfaction to 85%.

Additionally, Son developed a work manual for head nurses, who are key personnel in improving nursing quality in clinical settings.

The manual defines the roles of head nurses and sets standards for task allocation and operation, enabling effective utilization and significantly contributing to strengthening head nurse capabilities and improving work processes.

Son In-hye said, “An environment and conditions that allow nursing staff to focus solely on nursing tasks are essential for patient safety and providing high-quality nursing services, and there must be no gaps in administrative and clerical work for smooth ward operations.”

She also stated, “To innovate and develop hospital organizations, breaking existing frameworks and introducing new job categories that connect these roles have increased nursing staff job satisfaction and nursing quality, which in turn positively affects patient satisfaction.”

She concluded by expressing her gratitude, saying, “I want to dedicate this honor to all medical staff and employees of Daedong Hospital who have generously supported these achievements.”
