Suncheon-si to Implement Driving Restrictions on Grade 5 Emission Vehicles in the Second Half of the Year

Operation Restrictions on Days with High-Concentration Fine Dust Emergency Reduction Measures Issued

Suncheon-si to Implement Driving Restrictions on Grade 5 Emission Vehicles in the Second Half of the Year

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City announced on the 21st that starting from the second half of this year, the operation of Grade 5 emission vehicles will be restricted on days when high-concentration fine dust emergency reduction measures are issued.

A total of eight monitoring cameras have been installed on major roads in Suncheon City, and a fine of up to 100,000 KRW per day will be imposed if Grade 5 emission vehicles are operated on days when fine dust emergency reduction measures are in effect.

However, vehicles for the disabled, vehicles for veterans, and vehicles equipped with diesel particulate filters are exempted.

The emission grade can be checked through the "Ministry of Environment Vehicle Emission Grade System" website or call center, and by subscribing to the operation restriction SMS alert service, nationwide emergency reduction measure notifications can be received.

Suncheon City plans to focus on promotion and guidance in the first half of the year to prepare for the operation restriction of Grade 5 emission vehicles and to create a pleasant urban environment. The city will implement the "Diesel Particulate Filter Installation Support Project" and the "Early Retirement Support Project for Old Diesel Vehicles" in February.

A Suncheon City official said, "We ask for the active interest and participation of citizens in advance preparations such as the diesel particulate filter installation support project to avoid disadvantages due to operation restrictions." He added, "We will also actively expand support for the distribution of eco-friendly vehicles such as electric cars to create a pleasant urban environment."
