India's Sensex Index Surpasses 50,000 for the First Time Ever

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Byung-hee] The Indian Sensex index surpassed the 50,000 mark for the first time in history.

According to Bloomberg News, as of 9:06 AM local time on the 21st, the Sensex index rose 0.6% from the previous day to 50,096.57. During the session, it reached a high of 51,126.73.

Strong buying by foreign investors is driving the Sensex index to record highs. Foreign investors recorded the largest net purchases ever in the fourth quarter of last year and have continued with net purchases worth $2.6 billion in January.

The news agency explained that foreign buying continues amid expectations of a rebound in corporate earnings. The Sensex index has risen for 11 consecutive weeks recently.
