Employment Information Service Announces Research Results on 'The Future Occupational World of Legal Professionals'
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The majority of legal professionals surveyed believe that the legal market will expand within the next five years due to disputes related to companion animals and increased work efficiency through the use of artificial intelligence (AI).
The Korea Employment Information Service introduced the results of its study titled "The Future Occupational World of Legal Professions" on the 21st. The survey was conducted from September to October last year, targeting 141 lawyers and 71 law school students.
Among them, 50.5% expected the legal market size to grow within the next five years. Those who responded that it would "expand" accounted for 48.1%, while 2.4% said it would "expand significantly."
Researcher Park Gayul of the Employment Information Service explained, "More than half perceive that the legal market will expand due to changes in lifestyle such as a shift toward individual-centered values, an increase in disputes related to companion animals, and increased efficiency through the use of artificial intelligence (AI)."
Among various factors affecting the future legal market, the "increase in the number of lawyers" was expected to have the greatest impact. When asked to rate the degree of influence on a 5-point scale and then converted to a 100-point scale, "increase in the number of lawyers" scored the highest at 82.9 points.
"Expansion of new legal service markets" (74.2 points), "increase in demand for legal services" (72.8 points), and "expansion of lawyers' work areas" (72.5 points) followed.
As for scenarios that could occur in the legal market 10 years from now, "emergence of new legal services" scored the highest at 81.1 points.
"Emergence of star lawyers" (78.9 points), "appearance of AI judgment as an auxiliary tool" (77.5 points), and "increase in lawyers' roles" (76.2 points) followed.
Researcher Park said, "Education aimed at enhancing strategic marketing skills and problem recognition abilities based on data analysis is necessary."
He added, "It is also worth considering establishing a digital-based public legal service platform to quickly connect supply and demand in the legal market and to reduce disparities within the legal profession."
