"Lowered Further" KT M Mobile Launches Fully Unlimited Plan Starting at Around 9,000 KRW per Month

[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] KT M Mobile, the number one MVNO company in Korea, announced on the 21st that it has reduced communication fees by up to 28% across a total of seven low-cost plans, including ‘Moduda Altteul’ and ‘Moduda Mamkkeot Anshim,’ which are priced under 10,000 KRW per month, establishing a fully unlimited plan in the 9,000 KRW range. This aims to revitalize the MVNO industry and reduce household communication expenses.

First, to alleviate the communication cost burden for economically vulnerable groups, KT M Mobile lowered the fees for three ‘Moduda Altteul’ plans priced under 5,000 KRW per month. Among KT M Mobile’s LTE postpaid plans, the cheapest product, ‘Moduda Altteul 700MB’ (30 minutes voice, 700MB data per month), saw its monthly fee reduced by about 28% from 3,190 KRW to 2,290 KRW.

The ‘Moduda Altteul 1.2GB’ (40 minutes voice, 1.2GB data) and ‘Moduda Altteul 1.5GB’ (100 minutes voice, 1.5GB data) plans also had their fees lowered by approximately 21% and 9%, respectively, now offered at 3,390 KRW and 4,890 KRW.

The four low-cost fully unlimited plans under ‘Moduda Mamkkeot Anshim’ were also adjusted downward by up to 2,100 KRW, completing the transition to unlimited plans priced in the 10,000 KRW range. KT M Mobile reduced the price of ‘Moduda Mamkkeot Anshim 4.5GB+’ (4.5GB monthly data) from 21,900 KRW to 19,800 KRW.

Additionally, the ‘Moduda Mamkkeot Anshim+’ plan (0GB monthly data), which is among the lowest-priced fully unlimited plans in the MVNO industry, was set at 9,900 KRW, down 1,500 KRW from before, achieving unlimited plans in the 9,000 KRW range. The fees for ‘Moduda Mamkkeot Anshim 1.5GB+’ (1.5GB monthly data) and ‘Moduda Mamkkeot 2.5GB+’ (2.5GB monthly data) were also lowered to 12,800 KRW and 15,400 KRW, respectively.

The ‘Moduda Mamkkeot Anshim’ plans offer unlimited voice and text, and after the basic data allowance is exhausted, provide 400Kbps speed to support basic internet services. These plans were launched in October last year to cater to consumers who mainly use basic internet services and worry about unexpected additional charges due to unintended operations.

Jeon Seung-bae, Head of Business Operations at KT M Mobile, said, “Due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, we decided to lower low-cost plans to ease the communication cost burden for seniors and children who may feel it most.” He added, “As a key player in the industry, we will take responsibility for expanding the MVNO industry base and reducing household communication expenses by continuously considering services that maximize consumer satisfaction, such as plan restructuring, design, and promotional planning.”

Meanwhile, along with the low-cost plan restructuring, KT M Mobile has been increasing consumer benefits for rational communication lifestyles by running the New Year Daydeuk (Data + Benefit) promotion since January this year. The Daydeuk promotion is an event that provides up to 100GB of additional monthly data for seven main KT M Mobile plans.
