President Moon's Approval Rating at 43.6%... Rising for 2 Consecutive Weeks [Realmeter]

Positive-Negative Gap Narrowed to Single Digits
Democratic Party 32.9% vs People Power Party 28.8%... Party Support Reversed After 8 Weeks

[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] President Moon Jae-in's approval rating for his administration rose for the second consecutive week, surpassing the 40% mark for the first time in 8 weeks. The gap between positive and negative evaluations also narrowed to single digits.

According to Realmeter's announcement on the 21st, based on a public opinion survey conducted from the 18th to the 20th at the request of YTN, President Moon's approval rating (positive evaluation) increased by 5.7 percentage points from the previous week's weekly aggregate to 43.6%. Negative evaluations decreased by 5.0 percentage points to 52.6%, narrowing the gap between positive and negative evaluations to 9.0 percentage points.


By region, positive evaluations rose the most in Gwangju and Jeolla by 13.5 percentage points, followed by Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam with a 12.4 percentage point increase. In Incheon and Gyeonggi, and Seoul, the approval ratings increased by 6.4 and 4.6 percentage points respectively, while Daegu and Gyeongbuk, and Daejeon, Sejong, and Chungcheong saw decreases of 3.3 and 2.6 percentage points respectively.


In terms of party support, the Democratic Party of Korea led the People Power Party by 4.1 percentage points within the margin of error, reversing the rankings for the first time in 8 weeks.


The Democratic Party's support rose by 2.0 percentage points to 32.9%, while the People Power Party's support fell by 3.1 percentage points to 28.8%. The last time the Democratic Party led the People Power Party in party support was in the fourth week of November last year (Democratic 34.1%, People Power 27.9%), marking an 8-week interval.


Other parties showed the following support levels: the People Party at 7.9%, the Open Democratic Party at 7.0%, and the Justice Party at 5.5%, each increasing by 0.8, 2.0, and 0.5 percentage points respectively compared to the previous week.


This survey contacted 31,640 voters aged 18 and over nationwide, with a final response of 1,510 people, resulting in a response rate of 4.8%.
