KT OTT Season, Original Content to Premiere in Theaters


[Asia Economy Reporter Joeslgina] KT's online video service (OTT) Seezn is releasing its first self-produced film on the big screen.


KT announced that the original film "Keuneomma-ui Michin Bongo" (Crazy Bongo of Big Aunt), co-produced by Seezn and SBS Contents Hub, will be released nationwide at Megabox theaters on the 21st.


The film "Keuneomma-ui Michin Bongo" is the first case of Seezn's original content being shown offline in theaters. In addition to the theatrical release, it will be broadcast on SBS channels during the Lunar New Year holiday and will be available on various domestic and international platforms through SBS Contents Hub's distribution network.


Starting with this film, the original content area will expand from short-form to well-made mid-form, showcasing various mid-form originals such as the film "Double Patty."


"Keuneomma-ui Michin Bongo" is a road movie depicting the episode of a bold big daughter-in-law who, instead of using a spatula on the holiday, grabs the keys to a Bongo van and secretly escapes with the daughters-in-law one by one without her husband's knowledge. It is a human comedy film that the whole family can enjoy during the holiday regardless of gender or generation. The film was inspired by a popular post on an internet community a few years ago titled "Keuneomma is taking the Bongo to Gangneung."


Jung Young-joo, who has gained popularity with her unique acting across genres including the musical "Bernarda Alba," plays the bold big aunt "Lee Young-hee," who escapes with all the daughters-in-law. Kim Ga-eun, who has acted in dramas such as "Because This Is My First Life" and "Radiant," plays the soon-to-be daughter-in-law "Choi Eun-seo," who gets involved in the great escape and contemplates breaking off her engagement. Other cast members include Hwang Seok-jung, Jo Dal-hwan, and Yoo Sung-joo, adding unique and rich charm.


Yoo Hyun-jung, KT Mobile Media Business P-TF Head (Executive Director), said, "The original content that KT has steadily produced has served as a catalyst to increase Seezn's subscribers and usage," adding, "We will strengthen the influence of Seezn's original content based on various media strategies."


“Double Patty,” which will be released after "Keuneomma-ui Michin Bongo," was pre-sold in six Asian countries before its domestic release. Seezn's original web dramas and entertainment content have also been sold to Taiwan's FET and NTT Docomo, among others.
