Dangsan Station Congested Bus Stop Begins Remodeling as Part of Ministry of Land and Seoul City's 'Metropolitan Bus Transfer Stop Environment Improvement Project'... Major Renovation Including Arcade-Style Shelter and Expanded Passenger Waiting Area at Nodeul-ro to Olympic-daero Bus Stops in Front of Dangsan Station... Total Investment of 10 Billion KRW (3 Billion National, 7 Billion Local), Scheduled for Completion Within the Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Chae Hyun-il) is embarking on a major remodeling of the bus stops near Dangsan Station, known as one of the congested stops in the area.
Dangsan Station is a transfer station for Subway Lines 2 and 9, offering excellent accessibility to Yeouido, Gangnam area, and central Seoul, making it a busy spot for metropolitan buses and heavy foot traffic.
Additionally, 45 bus routes operate concentratedly across 13 bus stops, and metropolitan intercity buses passing through major cities in Gyeonggi-do, including Gimpo City, also stop here. At Exit 2 of Dangsan Station, it is common to see waiting lines of passengers over 100 meters long during rush hours.
The district has conducted multiple on-site inspections of the bus stops, joint investigations with Seoul City, and stakeholder interviews, consistently raising the need to improve the usage environment. As a result, the site was selected as a pilot location for the “Metropolitan Bus Transfer Stop Environment Improvement Project” conducted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Seoul City, and Gyeonggi Province.
Currently, basic and detailed design services are underway, and once the design work is completed around May this year, full-scale construction will begin in July and is expected to be completed within the year.
The improved transfer center will include ▲arcade-style shelters ▲expanded waiting areas for transfer stop passengers ▲installation of transfer convenience facilities and pedestrian movement facilities ▲and a smart pedestrian guidance and bus arrival information notification system.
The transfer stop improvement project will have a total budget of approximately 10 billion KRW, with 3 billion KRW from national funds and 7 billion KRW from local funds (Seoul City and Gyeonggi Province), and all processes are planned to be completed within this year.
Once the Dangsan Station transfer stop improvement project is completed, it is expected to greatly reduce bus waiting and boarding/alighting congestion for the many passengers using Dangsan Station, as well as significantly improve pedestrian convenience for residents moving around the bus stop area.
Chae Hyun-il, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, stated, “The congested environment of the Dangsan Station bus stops has long been considered a pressing and difficult traffic issue in the area. Through this improvement project, we expect to resolve the problems of obstruction on sidewalks and roadways and greatly enhance boarding, alighting, and transfer convenience. We will continue to strive to improve public transportation usage environments so that this area can firmly establish itself as a key transportation hub with connections in all directions.”
