Yongsan-gu Operates Non-Face-to-Face Lifelong Learning Education Program

[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Yongsan-gu (District Mayor Seong Chang-hyun) will operate a non-face-to-face lifelong learning education program starting in February.

This is to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and to guarantee the learning rights of residents.

Due to the ongoing spread of COVID-19, the district will conduct all lifelong learning programs through remote (online) classes. In addition, it plans to expand and develop untact education programs and proactively respond to changes in the educational environment.

First, at the Yongsan-gu Lifelong Learning Center Citizen Academy, the following programs will be held: ▲ Untact Citizen Instructor Training Course ▲ Winter Vacation Youth History Exploration Program from Home.

The Untact Citizen Instructor Training Course aims to discover local talents and cultivate lifelong education professionals. Graduates of the course will be provided opportunities to work as lifelong education instructors in connection with related organizations.

The target audience for the training is about 30 Yongsan-gu residents who wish to become instructors.

The training will be held over 8 sessions from February 16 to March 11 (every Tuesday and Thursday). Professional instructors will be invited to deliver lectures on topics such as ‘Changes and Future of Education after COVID-19,’ ‘Development of Non-face-to-face Educational Content,’ and ‘Online Untact Lectures and Practice.’

The Winter Vacation Youth History Exploration Program from Home was prepared in line with the recently highlighted importance of history education. Utilizing the school vacation period, which is a gap in school education, it will be conducted over 4 sessions from February 16 to 25 (every Tuesday and Thursday).

The program targets 4th to 6th-grade elementary school students (including parents), recruiting 20 teams. Themes such as ‘Independence Activist Lee Bong-chang Met in Yongsan’ and ‘The Country Dreamed by Baekbeom’ will be used to foster historical awareness and promote accurate knowledge of Yongsan. Using history experience kits and activity sheets, self-directed learning will be encouraged.

Online education courses will be conducted privately. Detailed information such as how to apply and attend lectures can be found on the Yongsan-gu Education Comprehensive Portal. The application period is from the 25th of this month to February 8. Tuition fees vary by course.

Additionally, the district plans to open the Seoro Seoro School to transcend the boundaries of teaching and learning. Seoro Seoro School is a program where talented residents become instructors to teach and learn from each other.

Any Yongsan-gu resident can participate, with about 10 participants recruited per course.

Education will be held from February 15 to March 26 (varies by course), offering a variety of lectures covering all ages such as cooking, economics, speech, and storytelling. Yongsan-gu residents active in their respective professional fields will serve as instructors. Tuition is free.

Seong Chang-hyun, Mayor of Yongsan-gu, said, “We have prepared non-face-to-face education to meet the residents’ desire to learn during the COVID-19 situation,” and added, “We will continue to develop various programs and expand lifelong learning areas for residents.”
