Mercedes-Benz Unveils The New EQA, Compact Pure Electric Vehicle, World Premiere

Mercedes-Benz Unveils The New EQA, Compact Pure Electric Vehicle, World Premiere Mercedes-Benz unveiled the new compact all-electric vehicle, the New EQA from Mercedes-EQ, for the first time on the 20th (local time).

[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] Mercedes-Benz unveiled the new compact pure electric vehicle of the Mercedes-EQ brand, the new EQA (the new EQA), for the first time in the world at 7 p.m. on the 20th (local time).

The new EQA, unveiled online that day, symbolizes the "progressive luxury" of the Mercedes-EQ brand and embodies the unique beauty of electric vehicles. The black panel radiator grille features the brand's iconic three-pointed star at the center. Additionally, the fiber optic strip running across the front connects with the full LED headlamp's daytime running lights, enhancing visibility even at night. At the rear, the LED taillights tapering gradually are connected as one with the LED light strip.

The EQA applies the design proportions of the GLA model with short front and rear overhangs (distance from the vehicle end to the wheel center). The power dome on the hood emphasizes the presence of the new EQA.

Prominent shoulder lines on the body and side window lines reminiscent of a coupe are also distinctive features. The front wing sports a high-gloss black badge with blue EQA lettering. Door sills are applied to the doors to enhance convenience when opening and closing, and all-weather protective cladding makes the vehicle appear more robust, giving it an off-road vehicle image. The rear lights feature a multi-section design, widening the trunk opening and facilitating loading.

◆Progressive Luxury Exterior and Smart Interior Simultaneously

The interior also incorporates various elements that express the characteristics of the new EQA. Representative features include new-style backlight trims and air vents, as well as rose gold-colored decorative trims applied to the seats and vehicle key.

The new EQA offers two 7-inch (17.78 cm) displays or two 10.25-inch (26 cm) widescreen displays. The five circular air vents are designed in a turbine shape with precisely engineered air guide plates.

The seat position is high and upright due to the SUV characteristics, making boarding and alighting convenient and providing excellent forward visibility. The rear seatbacks are split 40:20:20 and can be folded down. The maximum front headroom is 1037 mm, and the front and rear legroom are 1045 mm and 896 mm respectively, offering ample space.

The new EQA comes standard with the MBUX infotainment system. Selecting the Mercedes-EQ menu on the media display shows options for charging, power consumption, and energy flow.

The right display inside the instrument cluster features a power meter indicating power consumption, with the upper part showing the percentage of power used during driving and the lower part showing the percentage of power generated through regenerative braking.

The left side of the instrument cluster displays battery charge and driving range. The instrument cluster display style can be selected and changed according to the driver's preference among four modes: Modern Classic, Sport, Progressive, and Discreet.

◆Drive System Providing Efficient and Enjoyable Driving

The new EQA will first be released as the new EQA 250 model, offering 140 kW output and a driving range of 426 km on a full charge. A 66.5 kWh double-decker lithium-ion battery is installed under the body, and to expand customer choices, additional lineups such as an all-wheel-drive model equipped with an electric powertrain (eATS) and models offering over 500 km driving range will be provided.

The new EQA can be charged up to 11 kW with an AC slow charger and up to 100 kW with a DC fast charger. Depending on the fast charging environment and battery condition, charging from 10% to 80% takes approximately 30 minutes.

The new EQA is equipped with an ECO Assist function that proposes an optimized energy recovery program depending on the situation. ECO Assist comprehensively analyzes information detected through navigation data, traffic sign recognition, and vehicle sensors to suggest efficient energy use, thereby extending driving range. The information referenced by ECO Assist includes route details (curves, roundabouts, slopes), speed limit zones, and distance to the vehicle ahead.

Moreover, the new EQA's navigation system calculates and suggests the fastest route to the destination. It determines the need for charging through driving range simulation, considering factors such as terrain, weather, traffic conditions, and the driver's driving style.

Mercedes-Benz Korea stated, "We plan to expand our pure electric vehicle lineup by introducing the newly unveiled new EQA and the luxury electric sedan new EQS domestically within this year, leading the next generation of eco-friendly mobility."
