bhc Chicken wins 19.1 billion won lawsuit filed by BBQ

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] bhc Chicken announced on the 20th that it won the appeal case regarding the ‘Icheon City Land Damage Compensation Claim’ filed by BBQ.

The Civil Division 6 of the Seoul High Court ruled in favor of bhc, citing a lack of causal relationship between the delay in the implementation of the BBQ Theme Park project and bhc’s breach of obligations.

In the past, bhc had signed a lease and loan-for-use agreement with BBQ related to land in Mok-ri, Majang-myeon, Icheon City, which expired on December 31, 2015. BBQ claimed that bhc’s failure to fulfill the land delivery obligation and building demolition obligation caused delays in the BBQ Theme Park development project.

BBQ filed a damage compensation lawsuit worth approximately 19.1 billion KRW in 2018 but lost the case in June 2020. Dissatisfied with the ruling, BBQ filed an appeal, but it also resulted in a loss.

A bhc official stated, “Currently, BBQ is continuously pursuing unreasonable lawsuits based on groundless claims,” adding, “It appears to be an act of deliberately tarnishing the bhc brand to deceive consumers.”
