[Asia Economy Reporter Minwoo Lee] The KOSPI, which started higher, failed to maintain the 3100 level and fell back to the 3000 level. Although individual net buying exceeded 1.6 trillion KRW, institutional net selling also surpassed 1.3 trillion KRW, keeping the index stuck around 3090.


As of 1:50 PM on the 20th, the KOSPI recorded 3095.08, up 0.05% from the previous day. After opening higher at 3115.04 and rising to 3145.01 early in the session, it soon failed to hold the 3100 level and dropped to the 3000 level during the morning. It has since been steady around 3090.


In the KOSPI market, individuals net bought 1.6297 trillion KRW. Meanwhile, foreigners and institutions net sold 331.5 billion KRW and 1.3331 trillion KRW, respectively.


More sectors declined. The order was insurance (-2.12%), securities (-1.80%), electric and gas utilities (-1.76%), distribution (-1.45%), banking (-1.39%), and construction (-0.90%). On the other hand, medical precision (2.54%), non-metallic minerals (0.57%), and transportation equipment (0.52%) rose.


At the same time, the KOSDAQ recorded 975.56, up 1.86% from the previous day. It opened at 959.52, up 0.18% from the previous day, and steadily widened its gains.


Strong buying by both individuals and institutions drove the index higher. They net bought 110.2 billion KRW and 363.4 billion KRW, respectively. Foreigners, however, net sold 491.7 billion KRW.


Most sectors were on the rise. The entertainment and culture sector had the largest gain at 5.92%, followed by semiconductors (3.78%), IT hardware (2.55%), other services (2.32%), and internet (2.12%). Only transportation and construction fell, by -0.79% and -0.61%, respectively.
