[Asia Economy Reporter La Young-chul] An Seung-nam, mayor of Guri City, urgently requested policy support from Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung regarding the metropolitan transportation system, a long-standing local project.

According to Guri City on the 20th, after attending a meeting with Governor Lee and the executive members of the Gyeonggi Province Mayors and County Heads Council on the 19th as the council's spokesperson, Mayor An had a separate time to propose Guri City's pending issues to Governor Lee.

At this meeting, Mayor An requested proactive policy support from Gyeonggi Province for improving the metropolitan transportation system in areas such as Galmae-dong, and swift administrative support to enable the construction of Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Corporation (GH) basic housing in Guri City.

The proposals related to improving the metropolitan transportation system included: ▲ prioritizing the stop of GTX-B Line at Galmae Station in Guri City ▲ extension of the Seoul Light Rail Transit (Myeonmok Line) ▲ establishment of Galmae IC ▲ expansion of the metropolitan road between Guri IC and Taereung ▲ construction of a connecting road between Sanmaru-ro and Hwarang-ro.

Furthermore, to enable the construction of GH basic housing in Guri City, requests were made for changes to the city master plan and urban management plan, as well as designation of urban development districts at the area around 348 Gyomun-dong, Guri City, and the Han River urban development project site in Guri City.

Mayor An stated, "Local issues cannot be resolved all at once, so I will continue to work on the ground and maintain ongoing consultations with central government departments and related agencies," adding, "Since expanding transportation facilities involves significant budgets and requires coordination with higher authorities in administrative procedures, I will continue to make efforts until positive results are achieved."
