[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters (Jeju) Reporter Hwang Jeongpil] Jeju Fire Station announced on the 20th that it will implement the ‘New-Old Section Fire Safety Measures’ until the 31st to prevent safety accidents such as gas explosion incidents.
In the past three years, there have been a total of 199 gas-related dispatch cases in the jurisdiction, of which 9 resulted in gas explosions. There were 8 injuries, and property damage was estimated at approximately 39 million KRW.
On February 13, 2014, shortly after moving into a villa located in Hwabuk-dong, gas leaked due to a faulty gas hose connection, and when the gas stove was turned on, an explosion occurred causing human and property damage.
During the new-old section period, Jeju Fire Station is promoting fire safety measures such as non-face-to-face safety education related to gas safety, including confirmation of gas facility sealing measures when moving, for 111 collective (gas) supply facilities, and sending letters regarding gas safety usage guidelines to 193 gas suppliers and related facilities.
A Jeju Fire Station official said, “During the moving process in the new-old section period, if the gas pipe sealing or tightening condition is poor, safety accidents such as gas explosions may occur, so please be sure to request a professional company to dismantle and connect the gas facilities.”
