[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Sang-hyun] Gimhae City, Gyeongnam Province, is implementing a five-year plan to resolve livestock odor issues.
The city announced on the 20th that through a comprehensive livestock odor countermeasure, it aims to create a pleasant living environment free of odor by investing 84.3 billion KRW in 25 key projects by 2025.
The 25 key projects will be divided between non-urban and urban areas and will be promoted in phases considering the urgency and required duration of each project.
In particular, for pig farms in Seonwon-ri and Won-ri near residential areas in Juchon-myeon, the plan is not only to renovate odor reduction facilities but also to fundamentally resolve odor issues through relocating livestock barns or urban development projects.
Mayor Heo Seong-gon said, “If livestock odor is neglected, it causes inconvenience to citizens and weakens the foundation of the livestock industry. We will faithfully implement the comprehensive countermeasures to improve citizens' quality of life and create a clean livestock industry free of odor.”
