Two Seoul Detention Center Staff Test Positive for COVID-19... 11th Mass Testing at Dongbu Detention Center

[Asia Economy Reporter Baek Kyunghwan] Two employees at Seoul Detention Center tested positive for the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).


According to the Ministry of Justice on the 20th, two employees at Seoul Detention Center were confirmed positive during a full inspection of correctional facility workers. The correctional authorities are conducting weekly polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests for all correctional facility staff nationwide.


With two new confirmed cases among Seoul Detention Center employees, the cumulative number of confirmed cases in correctional facilities nationwide reached 1,261 as of 8 a.m. that day. There are 668 people in isolation, including 30 employees and 638 inmates; 429 people have been released from isolation, including 21 employees and 408 inmates; and 164 have been discharged.


The Ministry of Justice is implementing immediate quarantine measures at Seoul Detention Center and, at the same time, plans to conduct the 11th full inspection targeting about 500 employees and 500 inmates at Seoul Eastern Detention Center, where large-scale group infections continue. In the 10th full inspection conducted on the 17th, one male inmate was confirmed positive.
