Sejong-type Basic Livelihood Support Project, Up to 615,000 KRW per Month for 4-Person Households

[Asia Economy (Sejong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Sejong City announced on the 20th that it will increase the eligibility criteria and support amounts for the ‘Sejong-type Basic Livelihood Support’ this year.

The Sejong-type Basic Livelihood Support program started in July 2016 to support the economic independence of low-income households outside the public assistance system who do not meet the legal requirements such as property criteria.

The eligibility criteria apply to citizens who have lived in Sejong for more than one month and meet conditions such as ▲property deduction amount of 85 million KRW ▲residential property limit of 100 million KRW ▲income deduction for disabled households (242,500 KRW for severe disability, 104,800 KRW for mild disability), with household income recognized as 44% or less of the standard median income.

Following the expansion of eligibility criteria in July last year and reflecting the government’s increase of the standard median income this year, Sejong City raised the eligibility criteria for the Sejong-type Basic Livelihood Support by 2.68% compared to the previous year (based on a 4-person household).

Accordingly, the standard median income by household size is adjusted to 804,246 KRW for a single-person household, 1,358,755 KRW for a two-person household, 1,752,938 KRW for a three-person household, 2,145,568 KRW for a four-person household, 2,533,244 KRW for a five-person household, and 2,916,585 KRW for a six-person household.

In addition, the Sejong-type Basic Livelihood Benefit, which provides differentiated support by household size and income bracket (3 levels), offers a maximum monthly support of 231,000 KRW for a single-person household, 390,000 KRW for a two-person household, 502,000 KRW for a three-person household, and 615,000 KRW for a four-person household.

The Sejong-type Basic Livelihood Support can be applied for at any time throughout the year at the administrative welfare centers in the resident’s town, township, or neighborhood.
