Gyeonggi Province operates an interpretation volunteer group to facilitate COVID-19 epidemiological investigations for foreign residents and workers in the province.

On the 20th, the province announced, "Although recent COVID-19 infection cases among foreigners have increased, we have recruited an interpretation volunteer group to support epidemiological investigation sites facing difficulties due to language communication issues."

The interpretation volunteer group consists of 5 members each for Cambodian, Nepali, Thai, Myanmar, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Uzbek, and Mongolian languages; 4 members for Bangladeshi; 2 members for Filipino (Tagalog); and 1 member for Sri Lankan, with 28 Koreans and 19 foreigners participating.

They will work in connection with the provincial infectious disease management support team to provide interpretation support via non-face-to-face methods such as phone calls during COVID-19 epidemiological investigations of foreign residents and workers in the province.

The province also provides online education on basic knowledge of epidemiological investigations and interpretation support procedures to strengthen the capabilities of the interpretation volunteer group.

Kim Gyusik, Director of the Provincial Labor Bureau, stated, "We will continuously monitor the activity status and make every effort to ensure that quarantine is not delayed due to language problems."
