Goyang City to Operate 'Safe Accommodation Exclusively for Overseas Arrivals' Starting from the 21st

[Asia Economy Reporter La Young-cheol] Goyang City in Gyeonggi Province will operate some of its existing 'Safe Lodgings' as quarantine facilities exclusively for asymptomatic overseas arrivals, allowing them to stay until they receive their COVID-19 screening test results.

On the 20th, Goyang City announced, "Starting from December 29 last year, we have been the first local government nationwide to utilize a university dormitory (Joongbu University) to operate separate safe lodgings for asymptomatic overseas arrivals from the 21st."

As the variant viruses originating from the UK and South Africa are spreading worldwide, this is a strong preemptive quarantine measure to prevent local transmission among families and acquaintances of asymptomatic overseas arrivals. The safe lodgings exclusively for overseas arrivals will be operated separately from the general public.

Asymptomatic overseas arrivals among Goyang citizens can use the safe lodgings to stay safely and avoid contact with family and acquaintances for 1 to 2 days until their COVID-19 test results are available.

To this end, the city has secured 40 rooms out of 101 dormitory rooms at Joongbu University located in Deogyang-gu as exclusive lodging spaces for asymptomatic overseas arrivals, and plans to strictly separate and quarantine them from citizens entering to avoid family transmission.

Overseas arrivals can take the nonstop Safe Pickup Bus, which operates four times daily from Incheon Airport (at 10:00 AM, 1:00 PM, 4:10 PM, and 7:30 PM), to move to the safe lodgings (Joongbu University dormitory).

Upon arrival at the lodging, they will undergo specimen testing and immediately enter the facility, completing the process from arrival to testing and lodging within a day through the '1Day FAST TRACK' system.

Those planning to enter Goyang City and wish to stay at the safe lodgings, as well as their consenting family members or acquaintances, can make reservations through the Goyang City Civil Service Call Center via Kakao Channel consultation or text message consultation.

Mayor Lee Jae-jun urged, "Not only overseas arrivals themselves but also their families and acquaintances should take an interest and use the safe lodgings to block community transmission. All overseas arrivals, even if asymptomatic, must completely avoid contact with others to protect each other's safety."

Meanwhile, asymptomatic overseas arrivals without separate quarantine measures must visit the local health center within 1 to 3 days after returning home for diagnostic testing, and those confirmed negative must self-isolate for two weeks at home, with acquaintances, or in lodging facilities.
