[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] SK Innovation showcased its competitiveness in the mobility industry in China, the fastest-growing market in the global electric vehicle sector.
SK Innovation announced that it participated in the "China EV100 Forum 2021," held from the 15th to the 17th at Beijing Jiaotong University, organized by China EV100, a professional association specializing in future vehicles in China.
China EV100 is the most influential electric vehicle industry organization in China, coordinating future vehicle policies through the participation of six government ministries, including the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Ecology and Environment, and Ministry of Finance, along with private and academic sectors. Established in 2014, it includes Chinese government ministries and global automotive companies as members. SK Innovation officially joined as a member in 2019.
The forum SK Innovation attended is the largest event hosted by China EV100, where ministers from Chinese government departments and executives from global automotive companies gather to present and discuss the direction and technological trends of the future vehicle industry, including electric vehicles. The forum is held annually at the beginning of the year, and the forum held last January notably hinted at the Chinese government's change in stance regarding the planned abolition of electric vehicle subsidies, demonstrating its influence in the global future vehicle market, including China. Approximately 2 million people participated online in this forum, showing great interest.
This year's forum was scaled down due to COVID-19, limiting participants from the usual 2,500 to 100, including high-ranking government officials, major OEMs, and industry stakeholders leading China's future vehicle industry. The forum featured discussions on industry development directions and related topics under the theme of NEV development and policies in the first year of China's "14th Five-Year Plan." Various sessions related to future vehicles were held, including changes in automobiles/transportation aimed at carbon emission reduction, future batteries, and investments and innovations in future mobility.
