Sequential Release in 40+ Countries Including Korea and the US
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] Samsung Electronics announced on the 20th that it has launched the consumer solid-state drive (SSD) '870 EVO' in the global market. The 870 EVO is a new product in Samsung Electronics' best-selling global SSD 'EVO series,' designed for consumers such as PC users, content creators, and IT professionals.
This product is equipped with the latest V-NAND and controller, and features Intelligent TurboWrite technology that optimizes performance according to the user's workload. It supports the highest performance achievable on the SATA interface, with sequential read speeds of up to 560MB per second, sequential write speeds of up to 530MB per second, random read speeds of 98,000 IOPS (input/output operations per second), and random write speeds of 88,000 IOPS.
The 870 EVO comes in a 2.5-inch form factor and is available in five capacities: 250GB, 500GB, 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB. The 4TB model offers a 2400TBW (total bytes written) endurance or a 5-year limited warranty. It also supports Microsoft's (MS) power management feature called 'Modern Standby.' Samsung Electronics plans to sequentially release this product in over 40 countries, starting with South Korea and the United States, followed by Germany, China, and others.
Lee Kyu-young, Executive Vice President and Head of the Brand Product Biz Team at Samsung Electronics' Memory Business Division, stated, "The 870 EVO is a SATA SSD that offers not only top performance and durability but also strong compatibility, satisfying a wide range of consumers including desktop, notebook PC, and NAS (Network Attached Storage) users."
Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics revealed that last October, nine major memory products received 'Carbon Footprint Certification' from the UK Carbon Trust, and that the newly launched 870 EVO is also making efforts to reduce carbon emissions during the manufacturing process.
