Broadcasting Smoking Cessation Promotion Videos Using Outdoor Large LED Screens... Distribution of Smoking Prevention Educational Videos to Daycare Centers, Kindergartens, and Elementary Schools
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Noh Hyun-song) has actively taken steps to create a smoke-free environment using smoking cessation promotional videos to protect the health of its residents from smoking.
Cigarette butts and spit stains scattered on the streets cause passersby to frown.
Moreover, seeing people smoking while removing their masks or wearing them improperly (mask under the chin) raises concerns about secondhand smoke and worries about the potential spread of the COVID-19 virus.
In response, the district produced a smoking cessation promotional video to spread a smoke-free culture in the community.
The video is about 40 seconds long and includes the harmful effects of smoking, four simple ways to overcome the urge to smoke, and an introduction to the Gangseo-gu Public Health Center Smoking Cessation Clinic.
The district is broadcasting this video on two large electronic billboards at the busy intersection near Gangseo-gu Office, where there is heavy traffic and foot traffic, so many residents can see it.
Additionally, the video is being used for focused smoking cessation promotion on elevator monitors inside the government building and on the KakaoTalk channel of the Gangseo-gu Public Health Center Smoking Cessation Clinic.
Along with this, the district has produced a smoking prevention educational video targeting preschool children and lower-grade elementary students in line with the non-face-to-face educational environment caused by COVID-19, and distributes it to local daycare centers, kindergartens, and elementary schools through the KakaoTalk channel.
The approximately 6-minute video is created in a friendly infographic style that makes it easy for children to understand the harms of smoking, harmful components of cigarettes, and the dangers of secondhand smoke.
The smoking cessation promotional video and smoking prevention educational video can be viewed by searching for ‘Seoul Gangseo-gu Public Health Center Smoking Cessation Clinic’ on the KakaoTalk app on smartphones.
A district official said, “This video was produced to encourage smokers to quit and to establish a correct perception of smoking among children,” adding, “We will continue to strive to improve residents’ health through discovering various smoking cessation promotion programs and active guidance and enforcement.”
Meanwhile, since the first half of this year, the district has been operating a video smoking cessation clinic to provide residents with non-face-to-face smoking cessation counseling services regardless of location.
