[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Juhyung] Former lawmaker Geum Tae-seop, who left the Democratic Party of Korea, sharply criticized President Moon Jae-in's New Year's press conference on the 18th, saying it was "irresponsible and incompetent."

On the afternoon of the same day, former lawmaker Geum held a talk titled "Geum Tae-seop's Real Talk" with former Dongyang University professor Jin Joong-kwon. In this discussion, Geum pointed out, "I think the Moon Jae-in administration, which was formed through impeachment, has many problems that are very different from what we expected."

In particular, Geum criticized President Moon's response regarding real estate policy, saying, "It reminded me of the Park Geun-hye administration's evasive rhetoric."

Earlier, at 10 a.m. on the same day, President Moon received a question at the '2021 New Year's Press Conference' held at the Blue House Chunuchgwan, suggesting that "due to strict loan regulations, even if one wins a housing subscription, it is difficult to have hope of owning a home."

In response, President Moon said, "It is difficult for me to answer when it comes to very specific and professional details," and added, "It is not desirable for the president to issue guidelines as if giving instructions. We will promptly prepare measures and announce them to the public before the Lunar New Year."

Regarding this, former lawmaker Geum claimed, "He answered that it was difficult to respond to professional matters. I thought it was irresponsible and incompetent."

He continued, "After the Park Geun-hye administration, I expected 'respect for diverse opinions' and 'communication' from President Moon," and when he said, "It doesn't work with this administration either," former professor Jin argued, "President Moon and the 586 activist group have different temperaments. President Moon has no role and just goes along."

Meanwhile, Geum, who announced his intention to run in the upcoming April 7 Seoul mayoral by-election, said, "I think the most important meaning of this election lies in checking the arrogance and unilateralism of the ruling power," and pointed out, "Neither the Democratic Party nor the People Power Party properly reflect the will of our people."

He emphasized, "It may be difficult right now, but I think this Seoul mayoral election should be an opportunity to reshape the political landscape."
