[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Lee Sang-hyun] The Agricultural Workforce Support Center operated by Miryang City, Gyeongnam Province, is receiving favorable reviews from local residents.
Last year, the center built a database of 388 farms using the service and 832 job seekers, connecting a total of 37,931 job opportunities.
Through this, it resolved the labor shortage during the busy farming season and achieved results such as providing jobs to idle local workers and urban residents within the jurisdiction.
This year, with a total project budget of 450 million KRW, the center plans to mediate about 40,000 workers annually to local farms, focusing on strawberry, perilla leaf, and chili pepper farms.
Currently, efforts are being made to expand residents' participation in job opportunities.
Anyone who is physically healthy year-round, able to do farm work, dreams of returning to farming, or is interested in farming can participate.
Farms in need of labor can apply by visiting the center or calling at least one week before the work, providing details such as required personnel, schedule, wages, and work content.
A city official stated, “The center will spare no support to help ensure timely farm work and alleviate the burden on farm management, thereby contributing to the improvement of local agricultural productivity.”
