[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Dong-hoon] Lim Seul-ong (34), a singer and actor formerly of the vocal group 2AM, received a summary order of a fine after hitting and killing a pedestrian who was jaywalking while he was driving in the rain.
According to the legal community on the 18th, the Seoul Western District Court issued a summary order imposing a fine of 7 million won on Lim on the 13th. A summary order refers to the court reviewing documents and imposing a sentence without a formal trial.
On August 1st last year, around 11:50 p.m., Lim was driving an SUV on a road in Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul, when he hit a man who was jaywalking against the pedestrian stop signal at a crosswalk. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital but died.
Earlier, the prosecution filed a summary indictment against Lim for violating the Special Act on Traffic Accident Handling (causing death), considering that Lim had reached a settlement with the bereaved family. Investigations showed that Lim was not drinking at the time of the accident. If Lim objects to this, he can request a formal trial within one week after receiving the summary order.
