Regarding President Moon's mention of the pardon theory, "I sympathize and respect"
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] The Democratic Party of Korea on the 18th evaluated President Moon Jae-in's New Year's press conference as "a remarkable conference that showed the president's efforts to communicate with the people despite unprecedented difficulties caused by the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19)."
Choi In-ho, the senior spokesperson of the Democratic Party, said in a briefing that "President Moon honestly and thoroughly explained the overall state affairs. He also presented various responsible and trustworthy measures," adding, "It was a meaningful press conference where the people could have hope and pride."
Senior spokesperson Choi said, "The president showed hope for K-quarantine to the people. In particular, he presented concrete grounds for free vaccination for all citizens and the formation of herd immunity within the year," and urged the opposition parties to cooperate, saying, "Bipartisan political cooperation must continue so that K-quarantine can lead to the status of the world's best exemplary country."
Regarding President Moon's remark on the pardon issue, "Now is not the time to talk about it. The fundamental premise is that there must be a consensus among the people," Choi said, "We sympathize with and respect the president's words."
Senior spokesperson Choi emphasized, "We sympathize with and respect the president's statement that a public consensus is a prerequisite for the pardon of former Presidents Lee Myung-bak and Park Geun-hye," adding, "At the beginning of the year, the party leadership gathered opinions that true reflection by the parties involved and public consensus are important. The president's words also align with the party leadership's position."
He added, "The ruling party will also actively support so that tangible achievements can be felt by the people in urgent livelihood areas such as real estate."
