Abel Quartet 4th Regular Concert 'Schubert·Mendelssohn·Tchaikovsky'

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Byung-hee] The Abel Quartet, a string quartet celebrating its 8th year since formation, will hold its fourth regular concert on February 20th at the IBK Chamber Hall in the Seoul Arts Center.

The Abel Quartet will take a step beyond the solidly established Classical music to present Romantic era music in this regular concert. The subtitle of the performance is "Andante Cantabile," which means "slowly, as if singing." It embodies their aspiration to deliver a message of hope and courage at their own pace without rushing, even amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The stage will be filled with famous pieces that many have likely heard at least once in daily life. The first piece is Schubert's String Quartet No. 12, "Quartettsatz." This single-movement work is beloved for its excellent completeness and presence. Next, they will perform Mendelssohn's String Quartet No. 6, a late work left behind near the end of his life after the loss of his beloved sister.

In the second part, Tchaikovsky's String Quartet No. 1 will be performed, especially known for its second movement, "Andante Cantabile."

The Abel Quartet has won numerous international competitions, including 1st place at the Haydn International Chamber Music Competition, 2nd place and Audience Award at the 11th Lyon International Chamber Music Competition, and 3rd place at the 71st Geneva International Competition. Violist Moon Seo-hyun joined the group starting from the 2020 season.

Before the Seoul Arts Center performance, they are also scheduled to perform on February 18th at Kumho Art Hall in the U-Square Culture Center in Gwangju.
