[Asia Economy Reporter La Young-cheol] Jeongseon-gun, Gangwon-do, will support up to 91% of the premiums for flood and wind disaster insurance, which residents subscribe to in preparation for unpredictable natural disasters such as heavy rain, heavy snow, and typhoons.

Jeongseon-gun announced on the 17th, "This year, in addition to the government subsidy (70%) for flood and wind disaster insurance premiums for houses, greenhouses (including vinyl houses), and small business owners (stores and factories), we will additionally support 70% of the insured's own burden to reduce the insurance premium burden on residents."

Last year, Jeongseon-gun residents subscribed to flood and wind disaster insurance for 1,003 houses and 352 greenhouses (278,574㎡), and received a total insurance payout of 195 million KRW for 1 house damaged by strong winds and typhoons and 58 cases of vinyl house damage.

Previously, in 2019, they received 116 million KRW in insurance payouts for 34 cases of vinyl house damage, which was used for residents' damage recovery.

In particular, damage such as roof damage to houses or simple damage to vinyl houses, which are not eligible for disaster relief funds, can reduce the burden by subscribing to flood and wind disaster insurance.

When subscribing to flood and wind disaster insurance, houses with damage areas of 2㎡ or more are compensated up to 25% of the maximum insured amount according to the damaged area. For vinyl houses, if more than 10% of the total area is damaged, 10% of the insured amount can be compensated.

Yoo Gwang-taek, head of the Construction Department, urged, "We hope that subscribing to flood and wind disaster insurance will provide practical support against unexpected natural disasters," and encouraged residents to subscribe to the insurance.
