Dongbu Detention Center Conducts 10th Mass Testing of Approximately 960 Staff and Inmates

[Asia Economy Reporter Dongwoo Lee] On the 17th, the 10th full-scale COVID-19 testing will be conducted at Seoul Eastern Detention Center (hereafter Dongbu Detention Center), where large-scale group infections of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) continue.

The Ministry of Justice announced that on this day, full COVID-19 testing will be conducted on about 460 staff members and 500 inmates at Dongbu Detention Center.

According to the Central Disease Control Headquarters (CDCH), as of midnight the previous day, the cumulative number of confirmed cases related to Dongbu Detention Center is 1,221. The CDCH statistics include family members and acquaintances of confirmed cases, unlike the Ministry of Justice's count.

Although the number of confirmed cases at Dongbu Detention Center has recently been decreasing, additional confirmed cases continue to emerge with each full-scale test.

As of 8 a.m. on this day, the cumulative number of confirmed cases related to correctional facilities nationwide is 1,256. There has been no change compared to 8 a.m. the previous day.
