[Today’s Weather] Severe Cold from Morning... Snow Forecast in Some Areas

[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Eun-young] On Sunday the 17th, morning temperatures will drop 3 to 8 degrees lower than the previous day, continuing the severe cold nationwide. Snow will begin in the afternoon, with some areas expecting heavy snowfall.

The Korea Meteorological Administration stated, "Due to the influence of a pressure trough passing through the north on the 17th, the western coast of Chungnam will see snow starting from 3 PM, and the Seoul metropolitan area, Gangwon Yeongseo, northern Chungcheong, and northern inland Gyeongbuk will experience snow after 6 PM."

The expected snowfall and precipitation from 3 PM on the 17th to 6 PM on the 18th are 5 to 10 cm and 5 to 10 mm respectively for eastern Gyeonggi, Gangwon Province (excluding the east coast), and northern Chungbuk. The Seoul metropolitan area (excluding eastern Gyeonggi), Chungnam region, southern Chungbuk, inland Jeonbuk, northern Gyeongbuk (excluding the east coast), and the five western islands are expected to receive 2 to 7 cm of snow and around 5 mm of precipitation.

The Jeolla region will be mostly cloudy, while other areas will be mostly clear but gradually become cloudy from midday.

Snowfall accumulating between dawn and 9 AM is expected along the southern western coast of Chungnam, the western Jeonnam region, and Jeju Island.

Morning low temperatures are forecast as follows: Seoul -10°C, Chuncheon -13°C, Gangneung -7°C, Daejeon -7°C, Cheongju -8°C, Daegu -6°C, Gwangju -4°C, Jeonju -6°C, Busan -4°C, and Jeju 2°C.

Daytime high temperatures are expected to be: Seoul -1°C, Chuncheon -1°C, Gangneung 2°C, Daejeon 1°C, Cheongju 0°C, Daegu 2°C, Gwangju 2°C, Jeonju -6°C, Busan 4°C, and Jeju 5°C.

Fine dust levels will range from 'Good' to 'Moderate' across all regions.

The Korea Meteorological Administration urged, "Heavy snowfall is expected mainly in eastern Gyeonggi, so please take special care in managing facilities and ensuring traffic safety to prevent damage caused by the snow."
