[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-seon] Health authorities have warned against spraying disinfectants and sanitizers directly on the human body to prevent the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
On the 16th, the Central Disease Control Headquarters and the Ministry of Environment stated in a regular COVID-19 briefing, "Disinfectants and sanitizers contain ingredients that eliminate bacteria and viruses, which can be harmful to the human body and the environment," adding, "Disinfectants must be used safely."
According to the authorities, safe usage of disinfectants involves verifying whether the product is approved or registered by the Ministry of Environment, and wearing protective equipment such as gloves and masks when using the product to protect the skin, eyes, and respiratory system.
For disinfection effectiveness and safety, wiping surfaces is recommended. Disinfectants are products permitted for use on object surfaces only and should not be sprayed directly on people or in spaces where individuals are present without protective equipment. The method of spraying disinfectants into the air has not been proven effective.
