[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] A civic group has filed a complaint with the National Human Rights Commission, alleging that Park Beom-gye, the nominee for Minister of Justice, caused sexual shame to students by using inappropriate sexual expressions during a past high school lecture.
The Action Alliance for Establishing the Rule of Law (Beopse-ryeon) announced in a press release on the 15th that it submitted a complaint requesting the Human Rights Commission to refer Park to the Democratic Party's Ethics Committee, establish measures to prevent recurrence, and recommend that Park apologize to the victims and receive human rights education.
In June 2012, during his first term as a lawmaker, Park gave a 40-minute lecture titled "My Life Between Law and Politics" at a high school in Daejeon as part of a special lecture on integrity education. During the lecture, he used explicit sexual expressions such as "Every morning something gets throbbing, and at night it trembles," urging students to contemplate what justice means.
Beopse-ryeon stated, "For students going through sensitive adolescence or those who are very shy, this would have been extremely unpleasant and caused mental distress, constituting a clear human rights violation."
