Seojeong Art Center x CGV Yongsan I'Park Mall... Emerging Artist Support Project 'Jagmachi' Exhibition Begins

Seojeong Art Center x CGV Yongsan I'Park Mall... Emerging Artist Support Project 'Jagmachi' Exhibition Begins

Seojeong Art Center held a special exhibition titled 'Jageumachi' on Tuesday, December 29 last year at CGV Yongsan I'Park Mall. 'Jageumachi' is one of Seojeong Art Center's projects launched as part of a support initiative for emerging artists in Korea, aiming to discover actively working young artists and support their artistic activities.

This exhibition at CGV Yongsan I'Park Mall was planned to utilize the corridor spaces, which were previously used only as exit routes after movie screenings, as exhibition spaces to introduce talented young artists. The primary goal is to narrow the gap between art and the public.

The 'Jageumachi' exhibition features artists Kim Daehee, Lee Chae, and Jang Jinwoo, and runs for about six months along the exit corridors of CGV Yongsan I'Park Mall's 6th floor theaters 1 to 4DX and 7th floor theaters 11 to 13. At the 6th-floor corridor, Lee Chae's solo exhibition showcases 11 digital printing works including (2020) and (2020). Through repetitive processes of applying, covering, and erasing paint, Lee Chae presents the 'Blue Flower' series, forming blue textures and exploring abstracted images from various perspectives.

On the 7th-floor corridor, visitors can see five works from Kim Daehee's (2020) series and about 10 illustrations by Jang Jinwoo, including (2020). Kim Daehee's work brings intangible realms such as emotions, psychology, and inspiration into the visible world through imagination. Selected in the '2020 Second Half Seojeong Art Center Emerging Artist Competition,' his work captures landscapes by combining and transforming multiple photographic images through digital processes. Additionally, illustrator and pop artist Jang Jinwoo (Banakido) introduces digital printing works based on graphic designs. His works, borrowing popular images and playful themes, are characterized by flat colors and free lines. Through diverse methods and themes, the participating artists convey new messages to the audience in their unique languages.

The 'Jageumachi' exhibition, whose name means "more or bigger than expected," creates a new space for exchange that cannot be experienced in typical galleries by presenting more works and attracting more people than anticipated in an unexpected location, thus realizing art in everyday life.

In May, Seojeong Art Center held the 'Double Frame' exhibition in the exit corridor of CGV Yongsan I'Park Mall, introducing works by Jackson Sim and Lee Yoonjung. Additionally, as part of the 'Art Walk' project planned with CGV, a lecture program titled was held in June at CGV Theater 5. Through these diverse projects, Seojeong Art Center has built a relationship with CGV and expressed hopes that this corridor exhibition would offer some comfort to audiences amid the subdued atmosphere caused by ongoing social distancing measures.

Meanwhile, Seojeong Art Center has shown steady growth since opening its main building in Digital Media City, Sangam-dong. In June, it opened a gallery annex on the 3rd floor of Eulji Twin Tower. On the 5th, the main building will host the '2020 Second Half Seojeong Art Center Artist Competition Winner Hong Ji-young Solo Exhibition.' At the Euljiro annex located in Seoul Jung-gu's Eulji Twin Tower, visitors can see the BC Card and Seojeong Art Center collaborative exhibition 'Young Artist Exhibition Project: Breath, Pause' exhibition.
