Seodaemun-gu Supports Promising Startup Teams Through Green Venture Incubators

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seodaemun-gu (Mayor Moon Seok-jin) aims to become a "carbon-neutral eco-friendly energy transition leading city" by discovering business models that respond to the climate change crisis and establishing a green industry ecosystem.

On the 13th, the district announced that it is recruiting a "Green Venture Development Specialized Institution" to support promising startup teams that contribute to solving environmental problems through business.

The target applicants are corporations or organizations with more than three years of experience in venture startup development projects. If selected through the public contest, the institution will be responsible for the overall startup incubating program, including education, consulting, performance management, and corporate establishment, for about four teams selected through the Seodaemun-gu Green Venture Startup Camp until the end of this year.

Institutions wishing to participate can download the application form and business proposal from the Seodaemun-gu website's public notice section, complete them, and send them via email (lmh0102@sdm.go.kr) by 6 p.m. on the 26th of this month.

The district will conduct a first round of document screening and a second round of face-to-face interviews based on criteria such as performance goals, capability to promote startup development projects, staff expertise, and understanding of Seodaemun-gu's social economy startup ecosystem, and plans to select one institution around mid-next month.

Mayor Moon Seok-jin said, "We hope for the interest and participation of competitive venture development institutions that will lead the Seodaemun-type Green New Deal policy together to establish a green industry ecosystem."

Meanwhile, "creating a sustainable green city" is one of Seodaemun-gu's major administrative goals this year.

To this end, the district is promoting the creation of a carbon-zero government building through energy efficiency diagnosis and expansion of green infrastructure, pilot operation of energy management systems in public buildings, conversion of village buses to electric vehicles and expansion of electric vehicle charging stations, and conversion of official vehicles to hydrogen vehicles.

It is also undertaking green remodeling of traditional markets with solar power panels and LED lighting installations, as well as senior centers, public health centers, and daycare centers.

There are also plans to promote the creation of resident-led energy self-reliant innovation districts and smart environmental education to raise awareness and encourage action in the local community in response to the climate crisis.
