[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Guro-gu (Mayor Lee Seong) has strengthened protection measures for elderly people living alone during the winter season.
On the 13th, Guro-gu announced, "We have expanded support policies so that elderly people living alone with difficult living conditions can spend the winter healthily and safely."
The enhanced protection measures target 2,338 elderly people living alone, including those receiving customized elderly care services.
To this end, until March, when cold wave and heavy snow warnings are issued, living support workers and community welfare planners will check the safety of elderly people living alone daily. If phone contact is not possible, they will promptly contact guardians or acquaintances and visit in person to confirm safety. Under normal circumstances, living support workers check on the elderly twice a week by phone.
Guro-gu has also established a cooperative system by selecting nine key service institutions in the area, including welfare centers and the Guro Elderly Care Comprehensive Center.
Guro-gu will expand free meal services until February for 90 elderly people living alone who have mobility difficulties or are in blind spots without legal protection.
Meal delivery will increase from one meal per day to two meals, and side dish support will increase from twice a week to four times a week.
A Guro-gu official stated, "We will do our best to find elderly people living alone in welfare blind spots so that they are not isolated and to ensure their safety management."
