Seoul Gangseo-gu Supports Vulnerable Children and Youth with Sports Class Vouchers

[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Noh Hyun-song) is stepping up to support sports activities for children from low-income families.

The district announced that it will provide 'Sports Class Vouchers' to offer opportunities for physical activities to youth from vulnerable households.

The Sports Class Voucher support project was established to help economically disadvantaged youth enjoy leisure activities and grow up healthily by enabling them to attend sports classes.

In particular, the district decided to increase the budget by 44.16 million KRW this year, providing a total of 305 million KRW in Sports Class Vouchers so that more young people can benefit.

The support targets youth aged 5 to 18 (born between 2003 and 2016) residing in the district who are recipients of basic livelihood security, belong to the second-lowest income bracket, or are from legally supported single-parent households.

The application period is until the 20th of this month, and applications can be submitted online through the Sports Class Voucher website.

If there are many applicants, recipients will be selected based on cumulative usage period, eligibility for benefits, and other criteria, with individual notifications of the results.

Selected recipients will receive support for sports class fees up to 80,000 KRW per month for at least eight months annually. To use the voucher, applicants must register for classes on the Sports Class Voucher website and make payments online.

A district official said, “Not only adults but also children have been exhausted and struggling with daily life due to COVID-19,” adding, “We hope that children can return to their daily lives soon and spend time growing healthy in body and mind through the Sports Class Voucher.”
