[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Choi Eun-young, Reporter Han Seung-gon] As the severe cold wave that freezes rivers and seas continues, the 'Frozen Series' certifying the extreme cold has reappeared online, bringing laughter.
On the 9th, the 'Frozen Series' by netizens was posted one after another on SNS such as Twitter.
One netizen posted a photo of a frozen bottled water, saying, "The season of #Frozen has come."
Another netizen also posted a photo of a frozen mop, saying, "It seems the season of 'Frozen' is coming soon. I tried to wipe the floor, but the mop froze. I tried to wet it, but the water pipe froze too." In addition, netizens posted their own photos such as frozen river water and frozen ham, adding the hashtag "#Frozen."
The so-called 'Frozen Series' trend, which contains netizens' various 'cold certification shots,' is not the first time.
The 'Frozen Series' trend began in 2018 when record-breaking cold waves continued day after day. Netizens shared surprising images of unexpected items frozen, such as water from water purifiers, jam, coffee, toilets, and cosmetics, expressing their astonishment.
More than 2,500 related posts were filled with items that people never thought could freeze. During the severe cold wave, toilet water froze, and photos of frozen eggs and frozen water purifier water were posted as certification shots. Photos of laundry left out that froze and turned into something like 'frostbite' also brought laughter to netizens.
Meanwhile, as the Arctic cold wave continues recently, mercury levels across the country have dropped to minus 20 degrees Celsius, with very cold weather continuing mainly in inland areas.
On the 9th, the Korea Meteorological Administration announced, "The Han River has frozen due to the 'severe cold wave that has come for the first time in 20 years.'" The official freezing of the Han River is announced when the band-shaped area about 100 meters upstream of the second and fourth piers of the Hangang Bridge is completely covered with ice, and the river water is no longer visible.
On the morning of the 9th, when the first freezing of the Han River was observed this winter, the Han River near Nodeul Island in Seoul was frozen. [Image source=Yonhap News]
