[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] Kim Yongbeom, First Vice Minister of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, stated on the 8th, "We will do our utmost to execute the direct job creation project to hire 800,000 people."

On the morning of the same day at the Government Seoul Office, during the '1st Innovation Growth Strategy Review Meeting, Policy Review Meeting, and Korean New Deal Review Meeting,' Vice Minister Kim said, "We plan to expand new hires in public institutions compared to last year so that young people facing prolonged job searches do not become discouraged and can take their first step into employment." Along with this, the Youth Digital Job Project, which provides work experience to young people, will also be continuously promoted.

Vice Minister Kim added, "To support income and provide work experience for vulnerable groups who had an especially difficult year due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), we plan to hire 1,042,000 people, an increase of more than 10% compared to last year."

He also announced plans to lay the foundation for realizing a digital twin national land. Vice Minister Kim explained, "Digital twin is an advanced technology that creates a virtual twin identical to the physical world existing in reality," and stated, "We plan to support a total of 1.8 trillion won by 2025 to establish a foundation for new industries such as autonomous vehicles and drones."

He added, "We will establish legal grounds so that high-precision spatial information can be more widely utilized by the industry, fostering new industry sectors such as autonomous vehicles and drone delivery."

Lastly, he mentioned income inequality caused by COVID-19. Vice Minister Kim said, "Some raise concerns that income inequality due to COVID-19 may be a precursor to a trend and widespread division known as the Great Divide," and added, "It is impossible to predict how many 'Great' modifiers will emerge until the crisis ends."

These remarks by Vice Minister Kim are interpreted as concerns over the deepening wealth gap as the post-COVID-19 economic recovery unfolds in a so-called 'K-shaped' pattern.

He emphasized, "The government will do its best to make 2021 a year remembered by our people as the Great Rebound, symbolizing a strong recovery."
