[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-su] Gangjin County is set to begin full-scale construction of the Gangjin Dongseong Public Rental Housing, a project being promoted in collaboration with Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH).
According to Gangjin County on the 6th, the ‘Gangjin Dongseong Public Rental Housing’ is a small-scale customized rental housing construction project for low-income families, newlyweds, and young adults starting their careers. After being selected for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s public contest project, surrounding maintenance projects such as project planning services, ditch relocation, and sewage works have been underway.
The public rental housing, which will be constructed with a total construction cost of 24.5 billion KRW, will be built on a site area of 13,831㎡ at 231-1 Dongseong-ri, Gangjin-eup, known as Hamabo-ro. It will consist of two 8-story apartment buildings with a total of 150 households, along with three auxiliary facilities including a senior citizens’ center, a complex community center, and a management office.
The types of public rental housing include 40 units of Happy Housing sized 16?36㎡ (5?11 pyeong) for young adults and newlyweds, 70 units of National Rental Housing sized 29?46㎡ (9?14 pyeong) for households with income levels below 70%, and 40 units sized 24㎡ (7 pyeong) for near-poverty and basic livelihood security recipients.
The tenant recruitment is scheduled to take place around October, when the building’s frame construction is completed, and the monthly rent is expected to be around 100,000 to 150,000 KRW.
Once completed, this construction is expected to contribute to the balanced development of Gangjin County, alongside the recently established Dasan Integrity Training Center, Saejae Market Street, Hanok Experience Center, Dongseongcheon Ecological Park, and the ongoing Gangjin-eup urban regeneration project, in the relatively underdeveloped eastern area of Gangjin-eup.
County Governor Lee Seung-ok stated, “Through the construction of Gangjin Dongseong Public Rental Housing, we aim to stabilize housing for low-income and young populations and expect it to serve as a turning point for the balanced development of Gangjin County. We also hope that the Happy Housing project in Yeongpo District, Gundo-myeon, selected last December, will proceed smoothly to address the issue of population outflow as young people move to urban areas.”
Meanwhile, Gangjin County plans to address issues such as population decline due to low birth rates and aging in rural areas by promoting a project to build a housing complex for returning farmers and villagers in the Cheongja Village area of Daegu-myeon, in addition to the public rental housing.
