Basic Design Completed for Seokchon Lake Art Gallery, Targeting Completion in 2022... Full-Scale Launch of 'Cultural and Arts Hub' Project Around Seokchon Lake
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] This spring, the groundbreaking ceremony for the new art gallery at Seokchon Lake will finally take place.
Songpa-gu (Mayor Park Seong-su) announced on the 6th that it has completed the basic design for the art gallery that will further enhance Seokchon Lake, a representative tourist attraction in Seoul, and plans to start construction in March.
The district is making the area around Seokchon Lake a cultural and artistic hub of Songpa-gu by creating various cultural spaces. As a core project, the Seokchon Lake Art Gallery is being built near Bangi Samgeori at the eastern end of Seokchon Lake, with one basement floor and three above-ground floors, covering a total floor area of 1,500㎡ and a height within 15 meters.
The plan for the Seokchon Lake Art Gallery includes ▲ designing the building itself as an artistic work ▲ structuring it to fulfill the gallery’s primary function ▲ and constructing it in harmony with the geographical features such as Seokchon Lake and Songpa Naru Park.
First, the basement floor will connect to the walking paths around Seokchon Lake to improve accessibility and convenience for residents taking walks.
Additionally, it will house storage for artworks, an education room for exhibition-linked educational programs, restrooms, and more. The first floor will be accessible from the Bangi Samgeori side and will include a lobby for visitor guidance, offices, and parking facilities.
The second floor will feature exhibition halls showcasing various genres of artworks to residents, an observation deck offering views of Seokchon Lake, and a caf? providing a place for meetings and relaxation. The third floor will serve as the main exhibition hall, offering high-quality and diverse planned exhibitions and exchange cooperation exhibitions to provide residents with opportunities to enjoy culture and arts.
The rooftop will be transformed into a rooftop garden filled with the scent of flowers and grass, creating a cultural healing space where visitors can enjoy the scenery of Seokchon Lake and relax.
The district added that it has been conducting detailed designs for the ‘Cultural Experimental Space Lake’, ‘Seokchon Lake Atelier’, and the ‘Seokchon Lake Art Gallery’ to develop Seokchon Lake into a destination where natural rest and cultural spaces harmonize. After the detailed design is completed, construction will begin in earnest, aiming for completion in 2022.
Park Seong-su, Mayor of Songpa-gu, stated, “We will create the Seokchon Lake Art Gallery as a high-quality exhibition space that satisfies the diverse cultural needs of local residents,” and added, “We will strive to successfully establish a cultural and artistic hub so that the daily lives of residents become art, and art becomes a part of daily life.”
