[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] Thailand is importing the Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine from China.

According to major foreign media on the 4th, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha announced on Twitter, "We will receive 200,000 doses of the Sinovac vaccine by next month."

Prime Minister Prayut said, "I have given the relevant instructions regarding the Sinovac vaccine," and added, "We expect to receive the first 200,000 doses for medical personnel within one or two months."

According to officials from the Thai Ministry of Health, following the 200,000 doses next month, a total of 2 million doses will be introduced, including 800,000 doses in March and 1 million doses in April.

The Thai government plans to vaccinate about 50% of its population of approximately 70 million by the end of this year.

In November last year, Thailand signed a contract with AstraZeneca to purchase 26 million doses of vaccine sufficient to vaccinate 13 million people.

According to Ministry of Health officials, under a technology transfer agreement, production of the AstraZeneca-developed vaccine has begun in Thailand, and it is expected to be supplied domestically by May.
