[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] CNN reported on the 31st (local time) that at least 140 Republican House members are expected to vote against the results during the joint session of Congress to officially certify the Electoral College vote in the U.S. presidential election.

The broadcast explained that two Republican House members expressed this expectation on air.

The U.S. Congress is scheduled to hold a joint session on January 6 to officially certify the Electoral College vote results of the presidential election. Members of Congress can object to the Electoral College vote results during the joint session.

Objections require participation from at least one senator and one representative. When an objection is raised, the joint session is suspended, followed by up to two hours of debate before a vote is conducted.

If both the Senate and the House determine that there is a problem with the contested Electoral College vote results during the vote, those results are excluded from the overall Electoral College vote tally.

Recently, Republican Senator Josh Hawley (Missouri) declared that he would raise an objection during the joint session, making an actual vote likely.

Among House members, Mo Brooks (Alabama), Jody Hice (Georgia), Jeff Van Drew (New Jersey), and Joe Wilson (South Carolina) have publicly stated that they will vote against accepting the Electoral College vote results.

There are also voices opposing the objection within the Republican Party.

Senator Ben Sasse (Nebraska) recently posted on Facebook, saying, "President Trump and his supporting members are playing with fire," urging fellow party members to reject attempts to object to the certification process of the Electoral College vote results.
