Eunpyeong-gu Selected as an Excellent Institution for 4 Consecutive Years in the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's Local Government Innovation Evaluation


[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Eunpyeong-gu (Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) has been selected as an ‘Excellent Local Government’ for four consecutive years in the '2020 Local Government Innovation Evaluation' hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, securing financial incentives.


Eunpyeong-gu has achieved the remarkable feat of being selected as an excellent institution in the same field for four consecutive years since 2017, and among the institutions selected as excellent for three consecutive years recently, a total of 25 institutions including Eunpyeong-gu were recognized.


In this evaluation conducted on 243 local governments nationwide (17 metropolitan and 226 basic local governments), institutions with outstanding innovation performance were selected based on 12 indicators across three categories: ▲autonomous innovation ▲innovation performance ▲innovation diffusion and public perception.


As a result of efforts to lead resident participation and cooperation in the policy process, innovate outdated practices, and build trust, achieving innovation in public services through participation and trust in various fields, this year Eunpyeong-gu was selected as the top autonomous district in the '2020 Resident Participation Budget System Excellent Local Government Evaluation' hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, and received the Minister’s Award for Excellence in the 2020 National Design Excellent Project.


Additionally, Eunpyeong-gu was recognized for its innovation achievements in various fields, such as being selected as an ‘Excellent Local Government’ in the category of establishing a visiting health and welfare service support system at the 'Resident Autonomy-type Public Service Establishment Project Excellent Case Competition' hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.


Kim Mi-kyung, Mayor of Eunpyeong-gu, stated, “Our district’s selection as an excellent innovative local government for four consecutive years is the result of not stopping administrative innovation based on resident participation and cooperation despite the COVID-19 crisis, and consolidating residents’ participation and administrative capabilities.” She added, “We will do our best to continuously solve local problems centered on residents, revitalize the region affected by COVID-19, and ensure that residents can feel the results of innovation in their daily lives.”
