Received high praise for outstanding achievements in job creation, green environment, and smart city sectors, awarded as an excellent institution for three consecutive years
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Kim Soo-young) announced that it has been selected as an excellent institution for three consecutive years in the 2020 Local Government Innovation Evaluation hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, recognizing its achievements in innovative administration aimed at improving residents' quality of life and realizing social values, thereby securing financial incentives.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety evaluated the innovation efforts and achievements of 243 local governments nationwide based on 12 indicators across five categories: ▲institutional autonomous innovation ▲inclusive administration ▲participation and cooperation ▲trusted government ▲innovation diffusion and public perception.
In particular, this year's innovation evaluation ensured public nature and objectivity by involving a professional evaluation group composed of 22 representatives from academia and civic organizations, as well as a national evaluation group of 204 citizens considering regional and gender balance.
Yangcheon-gu actively made efforts to create jobs, such as hosting the '2020 Good Jobs Forum,' a platform for solidarity and cooperation to share good job policies with local governments nationwide. It was widely recognized for achievements including winning the only Green City Presidential Award nationwide through continuous attempts to establish Green City Yangcheon, and for various attempts to integrate ICT technology and administrative demands in welfare and environmental fields with high resident perception as a smart city special zone.
In particular, the district announced that it is continuously making groundbreaking environmental improvement attempts using smart technology, such as establishing plans to expand electric vehicle charging infrastructure by installing electric vehicle and personal mobility chargers utilizing streetlights for the first time nationwide.
Kim Soo-young, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, said, “As a result of everyone's efforts for the development of Yangcheon, only three districts including ours among all districts in Seoul were selected as excellent institutions for three consecutive years. I cannot hide my pride in being recognized for our collective efforts, and going forward, we will lead 'perceptible' innovation that materializes in residents' lives through district administration where residents are the owners and participate together.”
