[Asia Economy Reporter Suyeon Woo] Hankook Tire & Technology (hereinafter Hankook Tire) announced on the 28th that it received the '2020 CSR Award' from the government of the Bekasi region in Indonesia in recognition of its global social contribution achievements.
The Bekasi region in Indonesia is where Hankook Tire's Indonesian factory is located, and it is a representative industrial city housing more than 6,000 global companies. Through this CSR Award, the Bekasi regional government selected a total of 28 companies that contributed to social contribution and regional development within the area and expressed their gratitude. Hankook Tire has carried out various social contribution activities in the Bekasi region. In 2017, employees from Korea and Indonesia volunteered at a local elementary school to improve the educational environment for children. They provided a comfortable learning environment for students by repairing the aging local elementary school building and supported various supplies necessary for studies, continuing their social contribution activities.
Additionally, since June 2019, through the 'Village Support Program' based on urban agriculture using hydroponic gardens in the Cikarang Cijaw village, they have been engaging with the local community to contribute to economic development. Since April of this year, when the COVID-19 pandemic spread, they have also been conducting mask donation activities to prevent virus transmission.
Recently, not only in the Bekasi region but also targeting several public institutions across Indonesia, Hankook Tire has been operating a 'Tire Donation Program,' donating tires to 32 public institutions such as schools and police stations and supporting vehicle maintenance programs for these institutions.
Meanwhile, Hankook Tire was recently selected for the Dow Jones Sustainability Index World for five consecutive years and received the highest rating awarded to the top 1% of companies in the 2020 CSR evaluation by the global sustainability assessment organization 'EcoVadis.' It has also been recognized for global sustainable management by various organizations, including winning the gold prize, the highest award, at the '2020 Galaxy Awards,' a global marketing communication competition hosted by the U.S. MarCom.
